YouTube TV App Reviews

Rock. I dig the vibe and the whole DVR spin-off

I didn’t have cable, so this for me was a decent attempt at a life hack. I could have spent $10-20 more for a bunch of fluff, or take a chance on this - which is hopefully steadily growing. ...too bad I/we all -missed the $5 cheaper subscription price. 99% of online reviews seem outdated... This should technically be say, 3.5 stars because there quite a few kinks and bugs to work out (many Live shows display the wrong/previous/upcoming titles, etc), I but the general cool-factor is high, especially on the iPad... I really like the UI and UX. Familiar & intuitive - and the live previews on the home page (generally) stream surprisingly well in rapid succession. —I’m not much into Sports and this presently feels heavily geared towards that viewer type— Maybe the sports networks are more ‘fluid’ in their ‘contractual mobility’, but I’d hope that in a few months I’ll see that the app has procured more content - specifically music/movies/arts & nature..... At least 1-2 channels per month...? I don’t care about the big ones like HBO since they’re already so readily available - I’d like to see more cable staples/oddities. Maybe even (curated) local stuff if possible. This is good, bordering on great... most of what needs to happen is to always remember that people want simple cable-cutting option(s) without a lot of bull. PS - will there be original programming a la YouTube Red on this app? I figured there would be but now I’m not seeing any mentions in the description - nor any stand-alone YouTube red app... hmm

Horrible Battery Life on iPhone X

Doesn’t seem to be optimized for iPhone X.

Good, Not Yet Great

Video freezes up pretty regularly when using AirPlay from iPhone to Apple TV. Easy enough to fix- change to another channel then back- but gets pretty annoying after a while. iPhone interface takes a lot of getting used to. Everything’s there, somewhere, but it’s not at all intuitive. Still the best live tv streaming option at time of this review. (I’ve tried them all). Just be prepared to be patient as they work the bugs out.

It is not free

It is written free live tv, but once you download it, it asks for $39.99 monthly payment. Big lie.

Add more channels.

I live in a rural area where there are more cows than people. I can’t get local channels with an OTA antennae so I am impressed with this services ability to stream them all. However there is a limited number channels offered is not enough to make the change from SlingTV.

Love the service, hate the ads

I hate the fact that I am forced to watch ads when I am paying $35 a month for the service. If I record on a DVR or through a satellite service, I can fast forward through the ads. YouTube TV does not let you do that and you are forced to sit through seven ads at a time, 4 or 5 times during one show. You cannot even switch to another app to do something else while you’re waiting because it will pause it and force you to watch the rest of the ads when you return. This is a big enough deal for me to cancel the service.

Needs iPhone X update

I was going to get this but google has really made an attempt to upgrade most of their apps for iPhone X. So I not sure the investment is worth quit yet.

The price is way too high you, need to cut it!

(This review is based on price and concept) I realize there is an option to try it for free...but I’m just not interested and at that price I could get regular cable. I feel like this is an out dated concept. I do not have cable and it’s not because I prefer to stream the process instead of having a box. I want an option to bundle my choice of channels. Do something better than Hulu and Netflix, that’s what we are looking for, not regular cable...streamed.

Cast button glitch

When I first install the app and sign in, the app points you to the button you press to cast onto your tv or gaming console. The problem is, as soon as you close and reopen the app, that button disappears. And I dont see any way to manually link the tv to my phone. So that needs to be fixed asap. Right now I have to delete and reinstall the app every time just to have access to that button.

Constant problems with casting

Plenty of potential to be 5 stars, but constant problems with casting are so frustrating. Watching on the app itself works as it should on phone, computer or iPad, but I got this to replace cable and its failing at that. Im waiting for a bit since I have to believe theyll get the casting issues fixed. Also, I have Sony TVs which are supposed to be getting the app soon, and the old school YouTube app works nicely on my Bravias.

Needs background support

YouTube red has background support, why not YouTube tv? Developers, please fix this and I will give the app 5 stars.

Good app free trial won’t let me cancel

free trial won’t let me cancel :-/

No iPhone X support

Without an update for the new iPhone I avoid using it on my phone to cast to my TV and dont use it at all on my phone.

Ads causing playback problems

As others have stated, whenever the ads play, episodes don’t always resume where they left. Don’t mind the ads but the problems make watching unbearable.

Needs to add Bellmead

I got the app but couldnt use it Bc my city isnt in the app yet so I cant use it till the app can add my city

Stopped working, tech support did not help, no one cares....

We have been using YouTube TV for a couple of months through our sons shared account, and it worked great at first. The our iPads lost the ability to cast. We did everything the tech support asked us to do, including resetting chromecast to factory settings - nothing! They just wanted us to go away... A few days later our iPhones stopped casting too. WE HAVE NO SERVICE, AND NO ONE CARES...

Boring

Nothing really grabbed my attention. I’ll stick with my ROKU box. And a BIG TURN OFF is that it’s not watchable on my TV. WHO THE HECK WANTS TO WATCH LORD OF THE RINGS ON AN IPHONE!

Not ideal for watching sports

I subscribed to Youtube TV hoping that I could finally find a good "cable replacement" option for football season. At first, I was optimistic. I was able to watch network TV and cable news with good picture quality. However, the programming quality is not ideal for watching sports. Any fast action or rapid movement on screen appears very choppy. I learned that this is because Youtube TV broadcasts at 30 fps (frames per second), which makes watching sports programming uncomfortable. With Youtube TV, here is a noticeable lag or choppiness. I have since switched to Playstation Vue, which is 60 fps and provides a similar experience to cable or satellite tv. With that said, Youtube TV has a far better user interface, so I would consider switching back if they offer a 60 fps option in the future.

Crazy

Crazy cool app. I watch all the NBA games on it. All the channels are live to

YouTube TV is awesome

No matter where I’m at, I watch what I want! With chrome cast and Apple TV box, I cast the show up to my tv at my friends, hotel room or my own house! Much cheaper than cable and no buffering! Great for viewing anywhere! I love it!
