YouTube TV App Reviews

Good but Needs Some Work

While the interface is really intuitive and easy to navigate, I’ve noticed an issue with the app communicating with my Google Chromecast when playing DVR videos or On Demand videos. More often than not, I need to disconnect the cast and reconnect it for the video to play. Live TV seems to work very well. Overall, good app!

Overpriced

All the channels you think your getting. Your not ?

Glitchy

Live video sometimes doesnt cast or just wont play. Video quality isnt always stable. Videos also periodically get stuck on the ads

Youtube support not responsive

The app randomly decides to not respond. It is quite annoying. The only fix we can think of is to disconnect from Chrome and then reconnect. This works fine, but having to do that 3-4 times watching an hour show is not fun. I tried to reach out a few times to support and they have not responded to my issue. This was over 2 weeks ago.

Buena!

Fantastic

The best app ever

The best cable cutting service.

It has the best DVR of all of the streaming tv services. Picture quality is great now that ESPN and Fox channels now support 60fps. The cast to chromecast works but does occasionally does lose connection. Also love the ability to do 3 simultaneous streams. Could use a few more channels but again the DVR more than makes up for that.

Hard to cancel.

It’s a disgrace that a company as rich and profitable as Google would resort playing games with you when you opt out of a free trial. This reveals the evil of excessive control and domination that is fundamental to the Google model. The people must limit Silicon Valley’s power or else Google et al will control the people.

Please update to support iPhone X resolution!

Please??

Great app! Very easy to navigate!

This seeems to the best of the streaming services out there! Great app to navigate on! Picture quality is excellent also!

Chrissiibee

Its a nice app to let you be able to watch tv. What I dont like is the fact that I cant watch the live games on my phone I have to watch from a computer or tv. Whats the point of having it if I cant watch EVERYTHING from my phone. But other then that its cool.

Great Idea But Not Polished

I’ll be entirely sold on this when the selection is a little more broad (Discovery, History, Spike) and the guide is more robust. The guide today only shows the current and next hour. Not being able to browse further into the future to setup recording timers is crippling. If they want to compete with cable/satellite providers, the guide needs to be at least as good as theirs. Today it falls short.

“Do No Evil my Butt!”

At first I was excited about You Tube TV and then, as often is the case, reality paid a visit. It is now a punch line, yet when Google was first founded its motto was “Do No Evil” widely perceived at the time, almost two decades ago, as a swipe at Microsoft who was leveraging its successful mediocrity into a dominant almost predatory behavior which relied more on exploitation than innovation. That is where I see Google now, an opportunistic predator and you need look know further than You Tube TV as proof. They do a good job of hiding it, but here is the deal. You get 7 days free then they hit you for a monthly recurring charge of 35 USD unless YOU stop THEM. This is not a plan to to have YTTV succeed on its merits, its scheme to screw as many people as possible before they get caught. 7 days to discover offerings like The Tennis Channel is designed to lock you in based on you losing track of time or and falling into the 35 USD trap. Do no evil indeed!

UI is awesome.

So I have been around in terms of streaming services and I must say that Youtube (Google) has outdone themselves with this app. It is built with a Google like top notch quality and it is fully functional. It is a cheaper option that seems to be geared towards the ability to record and watch the majority of sports based channels.

Rock. I dig the vibe and the whole DVR spin-off

I didn’t have cable, so this for me was a decent attempt at a life hack. I could have spent $10-20 more for a bunch of fluff, or take a chance on this - which is hopefully steadily growing. ...too bad I/we all -missed the $5 cheaper subscription price. 99% of online reviews seem outdated... This should technically be say, 3.5 stars because there quite a few kinks and bugs to work out (many Live shows display the wrong/previous/upcoming titles, etc), I but the general cool-factor is high, especially on the iPad... I really like the UI and UX. Familiar & intuitive - and the live previews on the home page (generally) stream surprisingly well in rapid succession. —I’m not much into Sports and this presently feels slightly geared towards that viewer type— Maybe the sports networks are more ‘fluid’ in their ‘contractual mobility’, but I’d hope that in a few months I’ll see that the app has procured more content - specifically music/movies/arts & nature..... At least 1-2 channels per month...? I don’t care about the big ones like HBO since they’re already so readily available - I’d like to see more cable staples/oddities. Maybe even (curated) local stuff if possible. This is good, bordering on great... most of what needs to happen is to always remember that people want simple cable-cutting option(s) without a lot of bull.

Customer Service worst than any other I’ve seen. No NFL on your phone (unless you Verizon)

If you have any issues good luck getting a hold of customer service. And when you do, they have made the decision for you since they don’t like to waste their precious talent on costumer service. You won’t be able to watch NFL games on your phone if you are not with Verizon

Love It!!!

I love this app, I can get most of the shows that I paid nearly 3 times as much to watch with satellite or cable providers. I take my IPad just about everywhere with me and have no problem using the app/service. Yes sometimes I have to restart the app because a commercial will lock up during playback of a program, not a big deal at all though. I can get right back to where I left off. I saw a comment that it was difficult to cancel and someone was being “held hostage” now. This just tells me that they don’t know how to use their apple account. It’s very easy to cancel if you should want to. With this service WHY would you want to?

Great!

I really do love this app so far (still in the free trial). I really cannot say enough good things about the quality of the streams, the price, etc. There are only two issues I have encountered (and if they are resolved, I will absolutely give it a 5 star rating): When I attempted to get “help” via the built in messaging system, I found that if I did not continually back out of the message and reopen it, I would not see the tech’s replies. Also, on a fresh install, the app reads my tv and allows me to cast. HOWEVER, I must uninstall and reinstall the app each time I initially cast (once running on the tv I can use my remote). After checking all settings and seeing that my tv is still “seeing “ my phone, and other apps (like regular YouTube) are still able to cast, AND having the same issue of having to uninstall and reinstall on 2 other devices in the home (another phone and a tablet), it has become clear that the problem is within the app. That being said, I am so happy with it otherwise that I will continue to use the app, and wait for the updates that will hopefully provide a remedy.

Still missing much needed features.

Does "Submit Feedback" work in the app? I wish you could: - Sort a list of DVR items by recently recorded somewhere in the app. - Build an API so I can use Harmony to pause/play a stream on Chromecast from a physical remote. - Make fast forward work like Netflix on Apple TV. Cant you just send some metadata and single frames to my iPhone, then resume the stream on Chromecast when I hit play on my phone? - Do a better job handling the connection to a Chromecast. I have to tell the app to reconnect to the Chromecast too much. Always reconnect. - Detect when my TV is turned off, and terminate the stream on my TV. Dont keep streaming if the TV is off, wasting bandwidth. - Be able to watch DVRd shows while outside your home location. When I fly, I cant watch my DVRd shows. Aside from that, Im happy with the app and the service. Just wish Google gave a little more attention to Youtube TV. Its the best internet streaming service, but needs just a little polish to truly shake up the industry!

Not real 1080p, mandatory commercials

Giving 2 stars because when you claim something it should be legitimate. The app is a great idea, but there are some major issues. First is video quality. Google is definitely not using full 1080p video quality like the app will claim. No matter what, you will see pixelation and inferior quality video when compared to cable or other online streaming services. I suspect they do this to save bandwidth and possible storage space. If you are looking for quality 1080p, this is not the service for you. Second, even if you “record” a show, you will have embedded ads you must watch in the video. Unlike conventional cable tv with DVR, where you can skip the recording. While I understand google may have had to make this deal with networks to get permission to store video on google servers, but calling it DVR is just incorrect. It is more like video on demand with mandatory commercials. The app runs well, as you would expect with a Google app, but paying 40 dollars a month you should get a more cable like experience. Fix the crappy picture quality, and remove the mandatory commercials and this would be the premiere TV video service.
