YouTube TV App Reviews
$34.99 a month???
That costs more than buying cable TV! I was looking for a cheap alternative but obviously, this isn’t it. Hulu and Netflix are better than this!
All Great except NFL
This is a fantastic service. Can’t wait for it to come out for Apple TV. Also wish that NFL would allow for mobile viewing. It’s 2017.. NFL needs to get with the program.
Love it
Whole family can stream at once and the unlimited DVR is nice too
Zip code
Please make it available every where in the United states
Not perfect, but almost
I currently have cable and use a TiVo box, but it’s frustrating because out of home streaming never works and they’re always seems to be a lag. The interface isn’t as nice as this app, plus I pay $15 a month just to see a TV Guide on top of my regular cable bill. Once the app for the Apple TV comes out, I will ditch cable and TiVo as soon as possible Regarding this app, it’s very responsive and cleanly laid out, and the TV guide is really easy to navigate. The only issue is that you can’t see what’s coming up next. However the DVR function can’t be beat, and this app behaves like cable TV in that live TV continues while you look for other programs on other channels. Please make a native Apple TV app as soon as possible. I want to get rid of cable badly, but I can’t right now because I have to use airplay to watch on a TV which is annoying...
More ads and freezing midway thru ads in Casting mode
We have had Youtube TV now since August. In general we’re pretty pleased with line-up, picture and sound quality. Since August we did feel there’s a significant uptick in the number of ads in popular programming like The Late Show. But worse than that, Youtube TV has started freezing midway those blocks of ads when viewing in Casting mode on our smart TV. Hope they fix this soon, because it’s utterly annoying!
Loving this so far!
I am loving this so far. I like so much I ditched Sling TV which feels primitive compared to this. It works great on all of my devices. The big plus is that with YouTube TV I get to watch local channels CBS, NBC, and FOX. Not on Sling!
Where is CNN?
Come on guys. Fox News but no CNN?
Family?
Maybe it’s just me.. I like the app itself, however the adding family? Where is it, the directions are no help to me... how about “add user” click done... geez
Casting is glitchy
On my 3rd download of the app- deleting it seems to be the only way to restore the option to cast to tv ?
Great - a few hiccups
Overall, after the week trial, I keep the service and cut the cord as it is a great value (half price from cable). I also have faith the service will improve overtime to become as easy to use as cable. Here is my detailed review - The great: - has all the channels I want, except CNN (hope this is coming soon). Great value value right there. 5 stars when you have CNN. - unlimited DVR - insane ... this is worth 5 stars, no competition. - family accounts so our scattered family in 3 different cities all share, this includes the local channels - user interface: great after some getting used to, like it took me a while to uncover TV listing scrolling (hint: in live, click on channel logo) How to best use it: - for big screen experience, I use an Apple TV (gen 4) and it really requires a dedicated streaming device, as multitasking will disrupt the airplay stream (like chrome browsing will for sure interrupt the TV stream). I therefore tend to stream from my phone and multitask on my iPad. Needs improvements: - in VOD I often loose the stream casting when it goes to commercial break (Airplay or Chromecast). This is driving us nuts! We can recover quickly by clicking on the streaming device tv screen (sometimes this is enough), else need to switch Airplay back and forth from the device to the Apple TV. Very annoying and not everyone in my household can do that. This is where regular cable is still better. Note that we have the same problem with the Hulu app, so this is an industry problem. -in VOD the image quality is not great, heavy pixelation in the dark shades. - the DVR 15 sec skip needs to be used slowly, else the streaming freezes. Not as good as cable. - the DVR program search can be improved (Google, what!) ... for instance (today) it finds a sport event (Liverpool Chelsea) in Universo but does not find it in my local NBC channel.
Waste 15 minutes per 40 minutes
Ads cause choppy viewing when using airplay. The ads will not load and there’s no refresh or restart without actually exiting out of the show and restarting, and then if you were mid-show you will have to drag the scrubber to find your previous location which will force you to rewatch the cumulative total of ad minutes that you would have watched if you hadn’t fast forwarded to that point. We were just 20 minutes into a 40 minute show when the ads locked up. Spent 5 minutes trying to get the ads to load so we could get on with the show. Didn’t work. Exited the show, fast forwarded to be greeted with 4 ads totaling 5 minutes, and half way through those ads, they froze up again. This resulted in start the process over AGAIN. Spent a total of 15 minutes trying to get ADS to load just to watch a 15 minute show. Very frustrating. This has been happening for months. About to cancel our subscription. Aggravating that we have to sit through commercials. Being a YouTube Red subscriber and getting past ads, and then subscribing to YouTube TV and having 10-15 minutes of ads for 1 broadcast hour definitely feels like a downgrade while paying 2.5 times the cost of YouTube red.
Works as advertised so far
Streaming is good. Channel selection is good. Happy so far.
Cast Button Disappears
Like the app when i have my cast button. At times the cast button will disappear. The only way to get it back is to uninstall the app and re-download. Very frustrating!!! Ive tried everything to fix this issue. I have iphone 8 and cast directly to my tv. Need app for Roku asap. Old school youtube app works flawlessly with cast. Not sure whats goin on with Youtube TV app

Not so hot with casting to the Apple TV
Constantly stopped casting to my Apple TV so virtually useless unless you have a chromecast device.
Ads play, shows don’t!
Update: This app is updated constantly yet there’s always a new bug to content with. I have a freaking Chromecast so it’s all the company for software and hardware yet when I go to cast something the ad will play on my TV but the program I’m trying to watch won’t load/playback freezes like another reviewer mentioned. Why is that the ads never miss a beat but the actual product people are paying for has more glitches than a Zune? No one is going to pay you to show ad after ad after ad while the actual shows never play, YouTube/Google. You guys suk sometimes! Straight up thieves. You’re like the biggest company in the world and you can’t even program an app. High schoolers can program an app! The app has a great layout and I do like it overall, but if I have to restart the thing constantly it’s a headache, not entertainment.
Why make it show up in App Store for my region of not yet available

Great App
So far YouTube TV has been a great app. Searching and LiveTV are easy. I use DirecTV Now currently and will definitely be switching to YouTube TV as soon as they release an AppleTV App.
