YouTube TV App Reviews

Good service but

The app doesnt remember where you are left off when you watch recorded shows. Unbelievable, this is the only streaming service that cant do it.

THE CAST ICON KEEPS DISAPPEARING!

I don’t understand why I have to keep uninstalling the app then reinstalling just so the cast icon can appear. If I stop watching, the cast icon disappears and doesn’t show again until I reinstall! Why why why!

Its good but could be better

I like it but I don’t like that I can’t watch NFL games bc I tried watching the Colts game when I was in the bathroom and it said it’s not available for the phone. Other than that it’s a good app. It will give me something to watch when I go on road trips as long as it doesn’t mess up.

SD by Default

On my computer it only has SD 480p streams? On my iDevices I must change resolution to 720p or 1080p everytime I change the channel? DTVN was better than this.

Excessive ads in dvr

insane amount of commercials in DVR, more than a regular cable program.

Good but has an issue

I love this app, but it can be confusing to use. But the biggest thing that bugs me is the fact that I have to undownload and redownload the app EVERY TIME I stream it to my TV. The stream button on the top disappears after you use it once to stream. I have a Roku TV, so I have to use it like this until they come out with an app for the Roku. Other than that, I love the service this provides me.

CNN

I love you tube Tv. Can you please add CNN.

Meh

Basically an app that lets you watch a limited amount of channels...I imagine the number is channels will grow over time but right now if youre a sports lover and news junkie, its not bad. Latest update says updated for iPhone X... How? Seems exactly the same and the playback only uses partial screen. In any case the biggest issue for me is not being able to fast forward through Google-placed ads on many previously recorded shows.. You know, one of the biggest benefits of using a DVR.. in fact, the primary benefit marketed and people bought a DVR for since introduced. Google(?) replaces a shows ads that ran with the program with their own ads...6 of their own each 30-seconds! You cant fast forward past them and if you want to start later in the show, lets say at 45-mins instead of the beginning- no way. Youll have to watch the full length of each set of ads that are in the show up to the point you want to start. Soooooo if you want to FF from 0-45 mins and there are 4 ad sets along the way, be prepared to watch 12 minutes of ads before youre allowed to watch the part you want. To be fair this isnt every program I recorded, but its enough of them I dont bother. It also ruins the ability to show someone else a clip "hey watch this part real quick!" type of thing... You can forget doing that.

Missing some important features...

While the service works well and the quality is pretty solid, I’d say that Google is limiting some pretty normal features for no real reason at all... for example, there’s no reason why this App shouldn’t have the picture in picture feature. I really feel like they’re leaving it out just because it’s not an android device. I’d also like to see it work with the TV app. I feel like they could add the current features other apps have sooner than later.

BILLING?? HELL NAW

F**k no the billing THEY WILL DO ON MY GRANDMA?? HELL NO f**k off youtube and your s****y billing reason why i deleted your crap cause of ur billing

Very buggy

Loses its place all the time, especially after the phone wakes up. Controls don’t work. Plays wrong program. Doesn’t pick up where you left off. Not happy with the app.

Pretty good so far

I dont like unskippable commercials on shoes you recorded on DVR. Kinda defeats the purpose of DVR. This is a good start to alt cable and will continue to improve.

Okay

Advertised at &35 charged $39.99 plus tax. Player drops out often. Player after commercials restarts from beginning of program. You must attempt to slide fwd control to where you left off. Not very good system and needs to be fixed.

Much Improved and Getting There

Update 12/7/17: Thank you Google for the iPhone X layout support - Much Improved. However, for all live TV and video, can you please add the “pinch to zoom” or “zoom to fill” feature like you do with YouTube so that the video fills the entire iPhone X screen? Much appreciated. Thank you! Thank you YouTube for optimizing the app for the new iPhone X screen. Love the layout and the way all the items pop out at you. I know you guys are working very diligently. However, please also add the “pinch to zoom” or “zoom icon at upper right hand corner” for full screen viewing regardless of the notch, just like you do with the YouTube app. Hopefully that will be incorporated soon so I can give you 5 stars! Thank you again and keep up the great progress.

Support the TV app, please.

YouTube TV is pretty good (and the unlimited cloud DVR is a killer feature unmatched by any live tv service). Paired with a subscription to Netflix/Hulu/Amazon or whatever streaming service(s) you like, it gives you everything worth watching and more. Even if it doesn’t give you 800 channels, it’s still better than cable. There’s just one feature I really want to see with YouTube TV. I want it to work with the TV app on iOS so I can see all of my TV offerings. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and pretty much all the other major streaming services now support this feature, but not YouTube TV. If it did, I’d be able to see everything all at once. And if not the TV app, then I’d like to see content available on Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu appear within the YouTube TV app mingled in with everything else labeled as to where they come from (like the cast-able content appears in the Google Home app). I just want one app to browse all the content on offer to me. Also, if I leave the YouTube TV app while chromecast-ing and come back, I can’t play or pause or control the content playing on my tv without disconnecting and reconnecting. The issue isn’t present when casting from the YouTube app, so it is entirely possible to fix. Please fix it.

got BETTER

i started use the app back when it was launched i used for a few month then i quit because of the more and more commercials, they were really annoying since if u watch something on your phone u cant check instagram, twitter or whatever during the ads /on tv ads are more acceptable i think. well now i have the app again and i think they realized this issue i feel it has much less commercial! so now i will renew my subscription montly, I am also waiting for more big channels like TLC or MTV but overall This is the future of the TV. i really dont think people gonna pay and watch cables in the future. I am gonna give 4 stars now and upgrade to 5 when they launch more channels.

Good with potential for Great

Enjoying the freedom to watch what I want, when I want and where I want, which I didn’t have with previous service. Holding back the 5th star until they expand the non-sports category (why no History Channel?) and smooth out the rough edges on the page designs

Location services must be on

You have to let location services on or it will say program is not available in your country. I can see it to verify your location maybe but after setup? Really google. No thanks. I dont need you following me around.

Half Baked

The app is not stable. Each time it crashes, several commercials are required to play the content you are trying to enjoy. Challenges including random stops, failure to connect with a tv and excessive commercial time are chronic. Perhaps in a couple years, this may work but it is a low quality beta. My experience is that it was a disappointment and I wish I had my $35 back as I did not receive the expected value.

Works for me !

I can record shows to watch at my convenience ?, cast them to TV ? (via Chromecast) & I dont pay to watch 100s of Cable channel informercials ! ? LESS $ THAN CABLE + we live in a Rural area of Oregon & its hard to get even LOCAL TV without a dish.?
