YouTube TV App Reviews

Even the wife likes it!

This app delivers commerical TV with a better picture than the Comcast box. We slashed our bill. The DVR is easier to use. Guide is easier to read. I dont know why it is $42 instead of $35. The receipt gives no details. But the savings are so great and the picture is great and BTW she LIKES IT TOO :-)

Not as advertised

You say this is free and low and behold you want to charge 40.00 a month. This is false advertising. Very unhappy with your marketing ad. ?

Big $$$ Per Month + Unskippable Ads

This service allows DVR recording of live tv at an abysmal 480p resolution all the while offering streaming tv choices with unskippable blocks of ads. This isn’t a revolution in TV, it’s just old school double-dipping cable via the internet. Want to waste approx 20mins each night watching the same force-fed ads over and over? Didn’t think so, send them a message and don’t buy into this garbage service or we’ll all be stuck with them forever.

LOVE the service; Apple TV app a bit buggy

I broke up with cable and have been using YouTube TV (streaming from my iPhone or iPad) for several months now and LOVE the service. I was excited to see the Apple TV app finally launched a week or so ago, but am finding it a bit buggy. Specifically, the trackpad on the remote suddenly stops working within the YouTube TV app, yet it works in all other apps. Over the last two days I have deleted and reinstalled the app (on two AppleTVs) at least half a dozen times. The trackpad works initially but then randomly stops again. Hopefully a fix will be released soon.

Not bad, not great

Pros: -great playback on my iPhone X and ipad -definitely better than Sling TV (smoother and non-pixelated streaming) -more channels than other streaming services, including more live sports in the basic $35/mo price level -free online recording function...have yet to check playback function / quality Con: -static playback on my 1st gen chromecast

Cool concept but def no worth paying for

Awesome features but full of bugs and glitches with dvr and airstream. Crashes frequently and shows are constantly jumping all over the place.

Not missing cable tv

So far so good. The packages here are decently priced and off comparable content to other options. The phone and tablet apps work well and rarely have glitches. This arena is still new and rapidly evolving so I’ll keep my eyes open - but right now you tube tv feels as good or better than the competition.

AppleTV cannot change channel

I love the service, but for me the AppleTV app is almost unusable. I use the remote app on my phone to control my AppleTV most of the time. The first time I open the app it works perfectly. But if I go back to the menu or guide and try to select another channel, the touchpad area doesn’t work. I have to force close the app to get it to respond.

Hard to search

It’s really hard to search for programs that you have chosen to record. It doesn’t show all the programs in order. You can’t search for a program based on air date and time. I like the idea but the app isn’t very user friendly.

Good but overpriced.

This is great for folks that doesn’t want to deal with cable box and their stingy way of limiting on-line channels to Home Network only. (*cough* Xfinity). But for $35+tax, it’s not worth it. $40-50 for internet and $37 top of that for some channels to stream... YouTube TV needs to cut price by half to make this successful, not everyone is sharing accounts to cut costs.

App freezes

I love this idea. But the app freezes and I have to end the program to even pause a show or change shows. Also, I think that it would be great if there was an app for Roku.

Needs more channels

It is missing tbs tnt food network travel channel and much more. Directv now gives a much larger channel selection for the same price.

So/So

Great overall functionality, needs just a tad bit of work. Specifically in the streaming quality being consistent. Verified this not being internet speed based by rewinding and quality pixelation still being there. Had this issue when trying DirectTV Now in the beginning as well. That app has come a long way but does offer far more channels right now which is another area that this app needs to work on for this price. For $35 you can get more channels on DirectTV NOW than the $39 that you pay for the YouTube. Please improve those two suggestions and you’ll have a HUGE competitor and leader!

Ripoff- Ads, Ads, Ads

If you love watching ads instead of the program, you will absolutely love YouTube TV. Google must be making a bazillion dollars from this utter rip off.

Horrible

Cancels this a few days in because it’s NOT WORTH what they want for a few crappy channels! They still charged me and refuse to refund and suspend service A service I DO NOT WANT! Horrible customer service Way too expensive for what they have to offer

Good intentions

I like what this app has to offer as far as local channels. I did the 7 day free trial to watch the super bowl and decided to hang on to it for the Olympics. Super Bowl worked out well. The Olympics have presented a few major problems. For one, the app freezes up once I’ve picked out a channel to watch. It will allow me to watch what I choose but will not allow either of my remotes to work (Apple remote and iPhone remote app). Mainly the swipe function on the remotes becomes inoperable leaving me to watch one channel. That’s if the channel doesn’t decide to all of a sudden freeze up at which point I have to reset my Apple TV and start all over again with the exact same problems. Second issue occurred last night when trying to watch the women’s snowboarding slope style at the Olympics. The app told me that was the event being televised. For 4 hours I worked my way all around and through the app trying to get the snowboarding to come on. No luck, all I was able to see was a totally different broadcast of the Olympics. There was one time after I had restarted my Apple TV so that I could get into YouTube tv and have my remote work before freezing up that I selected the snowboarding broadcast. It went to a freeze frame of the desired snowboarding event for a brief second, only to skip back over to women’s ice skating. Frustrating to say the least!

Not available in my area

They need to add Lexington and Columbia South Carolina to the areas that are available because I’m tired of it saying that it’s not available in my area.

Could be better in OKC

Finally gave up on cable and we’ve been getting along with YouTube tv and Sling for a few months. But now that I want to watch the Olympics, I can’t because don’t have NBC live in my area.

Apple TV version leaves much to be desired

Live programming keeps jumping to previously recorded programming from the same channel. When I go to the live menu and select the desired channel, it still shows the recorded programming, not the live content. When you re-open the app, the remote will not work, only the menu button works. The only fixe appears to be restarting my Apple TV. Very frustrating.
