YouTube TV App Reviews

Love YouTube tv

We get many stations, all the sports, and our local station as well. Just like cable but less expensive!

Best deal in town

For the channels I want, and with “unlimited” dvr, this is the best deal in town. Hoping they will continue to improve the interface (desperately needs an actual guide), app reliability (a disaster on 4K Apple TV, black and blank video, massive video quality drops) and DVR recording navigation (seriously, TiVo had this stuff perfected 10+ years ago). As for the “unlimited” dvr, it actually only keeps your recordings for 9 months. The storage space is more than generous, but I hate being told I have to watch a show within that time frame. I used to frequently get a couple of seasons behind on shows when I was using TiVo. Can’t do that now with the 9 month deletion timer. Let’s hope that gets better.

Does NOT work. Don’t waste your time.

YouTube itself OFFERED me to download this crap. Just to, after downloading it, tell me its not available in my location! So WHY OFFER IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?! ???

Giving it a second chance

Update: Thanks for adding the ability to filter channels in guide! I was surprised that it was never mentioned in any update details and I only found out when I read someone elses review and they mentioned it. I’ve used all of the streaming services and just cancelled my Sling subscription. YouTubeTV has a better channel lineup, less buffering, and a better dvr. feature requests: 1. More control over dvr recordings. Including: option to record single episode, new episode, series. Ability to delete recordings. Option to protect a recording, so that it doesn’t get deleted, indefinitely. 2. Show/episode/movie detailed info visible without starting show. 3. PIP or split screen feature to allow multitasking on iphone or ipad 4. Comedy Central, MTV, and HGTV. 5. expanded guide to include at least a weeks worth of programming. Thanks! (original review, long....) I originally cancelled after the free trial because of lack of device support (Roku). and limited channel selection. Decided to try again, now that TBS and TNT are available. I had fios for years and other than the price was happy. I’ve been using sling for the last year and other than excessive buffering and a limited (although fairly sufficient) channel line up, i was satisfied. But for 5 dollars more, I’m hoping to have a more stable service and an expanded channel line up. So far I am pleased but there are some issues I hope will be addressed. FYI, I watch mostly on my Roku and a Roku TV, and on my ipad when away from home 1. As some others have requested, I NEED a way to select favorite channels, so that I can filter out unwatched networks. I would settle for being able to organize networks by order of personal preference. I dont watch sports, and its frustrating having to scroll through countless sports networks to get to my watched networks. On that note, I wish there was a slim package w/out sports... 2. As others have requested, I wish there was way to record new episodes only. Honestly, it just makes it more difficult to find the episode Im looking for, especially for shows in syndication. I dont need an unlimited dvr... 100-200 hrs would be sufficient. And, I would rather shows be kept indefinitely. 9 months is ok, but until deleted, would be better. 3. The auto play is extremely frustrating. I’m trying to catch up on newer episodes of the Big Bang Theory, but after watching a single episode it keeps switching to other shows... we should be able to turn it off or be able to set it up to autoplay by series, by favorites, or by suggestion for those adventurous enough to allow youtube to choose for them! 4. There doesnt seem to be a way to start watching where you left off. or it just isnt working properly. Again this seems to be a Roku issue. A choice to “Resume” or “Start over” would be helpful. 5. I really would like a way to utilize ipads multi tasking, so that youtube tv can be minimized when i need to use other apps. 6. Last suggestion, for both Roku and ios App, it would be helpful to be able to get episode info without starting playback. When I’m trying to figure out what i already watched a concise synopsis would be helpful. Thanks for reading!

Bye bye cable

Get on board now! Tried the week trial and 3 days in cancelled my cable. Saved me about $190 a month.

Love service but app is buggy

3/31 New update came out yesterday and app no longer works. You can play something but you cant posit for fast forward or rewind. 3/15/18 Had to lower stars because they put out an iPhone update that makes it impossible to switch what you are watching without disconnecting and reconnecting from Chromecast. They just keep putting out buggy versions. This is a far superior tv service to Hulu tv however I have to restart my phone and chromecast several times a day to watch stuff. Now more frequently. I enjoy the DVR, guide, movie selection, and not having to pay for Comcast very much! Best service maybe ever, but I cant give it high stars because its an App rating. I frequently have to disconnect and reconnect to chromecast just to unpause and then I loose my place. Its frustrating!!! The guide needs work in letting you see whats on next. Its impossible to read about other movies or browse because the app starts what page youre on. Other then buggy iPhone app issues, the streaming quality is great, they keep adding channels, customer service really does try, and it the app is easy to use. The unlimited DVR sure is motivation to stay with this service and for the price its certainly beyond worth it!

Works well on iOS and Roku

I would like it to get Comedy Central ... the only channel I am missing. I have not experienced the disconnect / logout issues others have described. One frustration: I set up the account while at my vacation home, and when I got back to my regular place, I found out to change my home TV market, I have to delete my whole account and sign up again. What a pain. So in TX I get to watch Utah local news.

Non-iOS friendly interface

I cannot interact with my account with an iOS device. When attempting to manage my membership on internet explorer i get a message that states to open with firefox or google chrome. I tried opening chrome on my iPad and there is no way to manage it there either. I have to use a windows machine running a chrome we browser to make any changes. The inability to manage my membership with an iOS device really put a damper on the entire experience. Non sure how this can be changed but even on a chrome web browser on an iOS device will not work. Please advise. Do i really need to keep my windows machine?

I didnt want this!

They make it seem like u get a free trial but then hit u with 39. A month. I didnt mean to buy app now fighting to et my 40 bucks back even after unsubscribing right away.

Flawed implementation

Love the ABILITY to watch TV from anywhere on pretty much any kind of device (TV, iPad, computer, etc). That said, the DVR is WAY harder to use than it should be, IOS app REGULARLY fails to track the watched status of shows which is a HUGE problem since you can’t delete anything, and can’t just record new shows (it records EVERYTHING) so you’re always wondering what you have that hasn’t been watched. Also, there’s no one place to see what I’ve recorded that I haven’t watch yet, there’s New Episodes, but that automatically flushes episodes out after a week, and then you have to check show by show to see what might be waiting for you. FINALLY, if you wait too long, your recording converts from a DVR recording that lets you skip commercials to an On-Demand recording which does not let you skip commercials. Worth keeping due to local channels, unlimited DVR and the price, but it could be SO MUCH easier to use......

Awesome app but NBC channels need to be in 60 fps

I have been enjoying this app very much. The channel lineup is nice and it have all of my needed sport channels. But there is one thing I really hope to happen is having all the NBC channels and NBA TV available in 60 fps. Please make it happen YouTube TV.

Too greedy for me

The prices dont seem very Googley. Especially since its still working out the bugs. Ill pass.

PHENOMENAL

Best way to watch tv.

A good start

First the positives, the value for spend is excellent. The interface is nice. The picture quality is great. Now the opportunities for improvement. First, get rid of the 15 second skip, use a 30 sec skip. Next, add the ability to resume a show where you left off. So, watching in the living room and go to bed. Starts again at the very beginning. So annoying. Finally, a page up/down button in the live guide would be much appreciated.

Stay away! Started forcing commercials on users.

Save yourself time and money - don’t download or sign up. They started interjecting ads all over the place. Want to skip back to where you left a show? Prepare to sit through two minutes of commercials. Want to use you phone to stream to your TV? That’ll cost you another two minutes of your life.

Great but Need to add iPhone X Full Screen Support

YouTube TV is great but support to watch video in full screen on the iPhone X needs to be added for the app to be 5 stars.

A Work in Progress...Need iPhone X Video Support

Its gradually getting better. There are two things you need to add ASAP: 1) Please add iPhone X video “full screen” support via double tap or icon showing box with horizontal double arrow. Need this support for live and on-demand/DVR Viewing. These black bars on both sides of phone are driving me crazy! You have it already with YouTube app. Please do the same for Youtube TV. 2) Can you please add a button for “previous channel” or “back” please? Just like traditional TV remotes they all have a “previous channel” button so you can flip between the last two channels you viewed. This really comes in handy when you’re watching two sporting events that are on at the same time on live TV. Thank you so much!

Great in Phoenix, AZ

I had SlingTV for about a year, and loved the prices, but the channel selection was limited, and little progress was made to add new stations. I liked what YouTube TV listed and figured I would give it a chance. So far in the Phoenix, AZ market, I’ve been impressed! They offer lots of local stations, and I love the DVR. It is easy to find specific programming to watch either live or DVR. The fact that you get Red included is all that much better. The picture quality has been perfect on both TMobile LTE and Cox broadband. Overall this is my favorite streaming TV service.

Please get FOX5 in San Diego and Lifetime channels

I love it. I switched from Directv Now to YouTube TV and I don’t look back EXCEPT they are still missing some few critical local channels such as FOX 5 in San Diego and some regular channels such as CW, Lifetime. Also HOW TO DELETE RECORDED shows you don’t need anymore? Please get them ASAP! Thanks

Works well

Ive tried this and sling, this is faster and generally easier to browse. Sling would sometimes freeze until I restarted the app, this works flawlessly so far. Definitely recommend.
